I get the impression that there is no given rule how things must be done why different coders do it in different ways. Other times, they are pointing to #maxDir and similar. » Additional Startup Scripts: Dropbox\3dsMax Scripts_scripts\startupīModify the scripts: Sometimes, the scripts are authored to be copied to the Max-folder and hence pointing to #scripts. » Additional Scripts: Dropbox\3dsMax Scripts_scripts » Additional Macros: Dropbox\3dsMax Scripts_usermacros » Additional Icons: Dropbox\3dsMax Scripts_usericons mxp file (Path Configuration File) which I mention again later below) Usually I put a shortcut to each destination folder in there as well.ī3dsMax: Change the system path under Customize>Configure System Path > (or use a. So this is basically a reminder what to do on a fresh installation.

» In each folder, I put those files or folders that eventually must be copied to Scripts/StdScipts. I wonder if there is a way to use a parameter when working with Include, ie include parameter + “script.ms” where the parameter is either $scripts or $userScripts (where the user can comment out and uncomment what “mode” he/she wants, ie Scripts folder or UserScripts folder). Going in and renaming every $scripts to $userScripts is tedious, especially if the packs get updated every now and then. They are authored in the manner that theyre expected to be placed under $scripts. The ones I copy to Scripts are usually script packs (eg. Those scripts that must be in StdScripts are usually functions and they appear not to work if copied under Additional Scripts or even Additional Startup Scripts (anyone who knows why? I really love to skip the exception part). Some scripts need to be copied to the StdScripts folder and some need to be in the Scripts folder under Max-root. » because I wanted to separate my startupscripts » scripts that come in own folders or have multiple files and/or subfoldersĭropbox\3dsMax Scripts_scripts\startup\Haider » sometimes I need to try out new macroscripts and put a bunch of files in here for quick identification before moving them out to my folder or deleting them I have a script that loads in macroscripts without restarting max* (see Additional Notes later in this post) Sometimes you might want to drag-drop an MCR into Max for quick test and you will find them here » all autogenereated MCR files get here and can be identified or erased etc.

I am sure Kenzor wont mindī:: Folder structure of script files to be synced If anyone feels to try to solve this thing through MaxScript, please share the knowledge! If you need to have a look at the modified script I mentioned, let me know. I am currently looking for a MaxScript coder (I might dare to disturb Ken about that) who could automate this process, ie one click save and restore, maybe even a startup-script that backups and restores automatically. I use the ∳dsMax ini Inspector script by Ken BKenzor Turner ( Designimage Maxscript pack), which I modified to handle not only 3dsmax.ini, but also SME.ini and CurrentDefault.ini (continue reading to find out what is backed up). It is basically saving down files or writing down information that I want to restore later and have them synced on Dropbox. Everything syncable means that once you change it on one computer, it is changed next time you run Max on another computerī:: Backup: This part is very lowtech for everything that is not syncable. Keyboard shortcuts are also syncable, but not the Toolbar and Menu. » UI Schemes, INI backups, notes & misc-stuff.ī:: Sync: Scripts and such are synced perfectly.

I am not an expert, so feel free to correct my mistakes and do offer new solutions. Customization and personalization does a lot for ones workflow and speed. The purpose of this is to backup all the customizations one does to ones 3dsMax and to sync it so that it can easily be re-used on other workplaces. BThe intention of this post is to inspire and hopefully get inspired by others.
